-27F and Still Dropping

Woke up early to add wood to the living room stove and noticed the chill outside. Stove burning will be another day of 24/7 with a few more to go before the temperature breaks. The Tarm also will do its job today to heat the 1000 gallons of storage to 190F to provide another two days of heat for the shop. My BWF right now is the ample supply of well seasoned wood. Life in the north country is good.

Mosquitoes are survivors. Some must survive in warm cracks because occasionally this winter, yesterday the most recent, I find a mosquito flying around my computer screen. Or, maybe they are nano drones spawned by a computer virus.

Record low so far for February in northern Maine - average daily temp of almost minus 1. The Tarm is keeping us warm and making a big dent in the wood pile! Hasn't been as cold as jebatty but never warms up. I'm looking forward to one light-up a day instead of two within two or three weeks.

Yeah, we're in about the same boat Jeb. I had about -22F this morning but some places northwest of here were at or below -30F, and are expected to be even colder tonite ! Our weather guy just said that we cold break the record for the coldest February ever here, and that record was set last year ! LOL

Lake Superior is over 90% ice covered and will be completely froze over by Sunday in all likelihood. It hasn't froze over in consecutive years since 1978-9 At least that shuts off the lake effect snow machine, but also allows for colder temps to flow in. I wish this damn global warming would stop causing this persistent brutal cold, and we could just have some normal weather !

I woke up last night at 3:35 AM. I noticed the floors were cold,,,, huh, Go out to the wood boiler and what a beatiful night. Calm, millions of stars and a good solid -16F. The boiler shut down cause it didn't get to temp in time. Of course on the second coldest night of the year but I'm glad I went out ,,, That cold fresh air knocked me out the second I hit the bed..

Have you increased your work time setting to prevent this? I think I set mine at 3 hours.

-35 yesterday morning and +12 this morning.................Storage yesterday was pretty well spent (140 throughout) but today 180's at upper levels. Yesterday's burn of 137 pounds was the highest of the season. Today will be back to normal 80-90 pounds.

I used to enjoy the cold weather in my youth but not so much lately. Woke up to 3 deg F this morning. Been a tough few weeks on the island with record lows and sitting in the teens for days. Lots of freeze ups for folks on slabs and outside oil tanks. These homes just weren't built for this unusual climate we've been having. I'm good though, plenty of seasoned wood, 1,000 gal fuel tank in the ground, basement full of beer and wine and my palm trees are nice and warm in the garage waiting for spring.

Yeah, don't ya love the steam rolling out, and how sound travels in these temps. I heard the neighbor's semi warming this morning like it was right here, he is 1/2 miles down the road. And the storm door dampener is useless too.
