I will be purchasing one of these stoves to heat my 1200 sq ft home in mid-coast Maine. The house is old and loose. I previously had a Waterford Leprechaun. The main room where the stove will sit is a addition built to the side of the house and is about 200 sq ft. I have forced hot air but want to heat mostly with wood. Do you think the smaller 13 would work or should I go with the 30. I just don't want to be blasted out of the living room. Thanks for any help!

I would stick with the 13NC if the Leprechaun did a decent job. Pay attention to the hearth requirements for this stove. It needs a very well insulated hearth. If this is an issue take a look at some other stoves of this size like the Timberwolf 2200, the Drolet Classic and the PE TrueNorth TN19. Or if your budget can handle it consider a PE Super 27 or a Woodstock soapstone stove like the Keystone or Fireview.

The Waterford did not cut the mustard. I know the 30 will. Do you think it will blast me out of the room?

OK, I was a little surprised to read you were using this in Maine, but some houses are much tighter than others. The 3 cu ft 30 NC sounds like overkill, it's 3 times the size of the Leprechaun. At 2.0 cu ft, the stoves I mentioned have about twice the firebox size as the little Waterford. That should be the just right Goldilocks size for 1200 sq ft unless the place is quite leaky. If that is the case your best savings will be to caulk and seal those leaks.

Do you have any suggestions on a stock hearth pad that I could buy for these stoves or links on how to build one up to specs? I think I want to go with the 30

try the search feature use keywords like hearthpad there are several threads in the archive concerning how members have built their own floor protection, at leas ta couple of them were mounting 30's

the R factor requirement of that unit is 1.5 BTW and the unit ships out of the factory at 440LBS so it has to be able to handle the weight as well as the thermal energy of that beast

BTW thanks for your interest in my products, if you want to discuss them with me , feel free to PM me be happy to chat with you but i dont do that in here, have a self imposed moratorium on "selling" in webby's house ;)

The 13 is going to give you 5-6 hour burns, max.

That being said, it's an awesome heater !!

Keep that in mind.

Welcome to the forums !!

You can throttle that 30 down a good bit, doesnt put out excess heat on the lowest setting. I have 2 of them, one in my workshop which is only about 24 x 16 and iv never got blasted out of the room and i run it on full air.At least you can get a good overnight burn with the 30.
