I have my pellet insert in the living room. had trouble last year getting the warm air to the back bed rooms of the house (ranch). I was thinking of running an insulated flex duct from the living room to the hall way to help move the warm air down there. I plan to use a register booster set up to move the air.

would I be better off using 4'' or 6'' duct?? it will be about a 35-40 foot run.

thanks

40 ft with a register booster probably will not happen nothing will come out the other end. If your insistent on trying you'd probably have the best luck with 6 inch metal duct insulated heavily if your going through unconditioned space. Flex pipe has a lot of resistance for such a low CFM.

IMO, you're wasting your time unless your stove has a direct ducting out port.

A box fan on the floor by your bedrooms pointed at your stove will have the best effect of moving warm air down that way.

No guarantees however I'd use an 8 inch flex duct with an 8 inch duct booster fan.

Do a search here, and on the wood stove forum. So many have tried this, with the same non working result

what do you guys recommend doing then? I tried the box fan deal but it only works so so . I still have a difference of about 6-7 degrees from stove room to back bed rooms.

Sounds like you are having pretty good results to me. Double digits is where it really hurts.

That's probably about the best you would get. I use my central AC air handler through heavily insulated ducts in the attic, and it works great to distribute the heat throughout. Why people continue to say it doesn't work is beyond me, as they probably ran it through uninsulated ducting through an uninsulated area. My results are slightly better than yours, and even when it is 0 degrees out, the heat is well distributed throughout my split level ranch.

central air doesn't work for me at all... it comes out cold. takes a lot of electricity to run too.

Dealing with heat loss in far away rooms is part of the game.

I bought one of these for my bedroom and put my tv on it. it looks nice and it's functional. I run it in the morning sometimes when it's too cold to get out of bed. The remote is handy :) warms up the 20x13 bedroom 2-3 degrees in about 5-10 min. i've noticed no real hit to the power bill when i use it a lot either. it's pretty low draw, considering.

You would be better off with 6". Larger duct with same cfm = less static pressure loss.

Will it work? Highly unlikely.
