I'm planning on doing it myself install of this rear vented stove into a corner of a room. Is it permissible to use a 45° stove pipe in order to connect to the wall thimble

Yes, but stoves do best if there is sufficient vertical rise before any elbowing.
Two 45s work better than one 90 for draft.

In this case, going straight back to a 45 heading into the wall thimble is the best approach. If you go up first, you'd need another 90 plus a 45 which would be more restrictive.

I would strongly recommend switching the stove to top vent and going up with it 2' or so instead of straight out. That way when you switch stoves you don't need to change everything

this is a circa 1980 Defiant...can they be switched to a top vent? I do not see how it's possible

Alright that is an earlier model than the ones I'm familiar with. Appears to be rear-vent only.

This stove requires large clearances. The metal behind the stove does not appear to be proper shielding. There is no air gap top and bottom. Is it on 1" non-combustible standoffs from studs.

The camera angle makes it hard to see if the stove pipe attachment shown is a transition piece. Is the flue outlet at the stove exit oval or round?
