A busy ten day rampage!

Haven't been on here much lately, its been really busy. In the past ten days we cut a 90' poplar with a 26" diameter trunk, a 110' poplar with a 35" trunk, a 100' white oak with a 36" trunk, 7 red maples all around 60' with various diameter trunks, and I helped my cousins boyfriend cut up the 90' red oak with a 44" trunk that blew over during the storms a couple weeks ago. We also got almost all of it split up already, with the exception of a couple red maples. I still have 12 8' saw logs (poplar and white oak) to get off of the one jobsite and a big beech limb that needs removed (doing that work on Saturday morning). The is on top of a full-time job and other household chores. One more big job coming up next weekend and then the saws will be put up for a couple of months so I can finish my fireplace / living room project. Lots of tree jobs being scheduled for the fall, I still have a couple trees to drop for BrianK in July and 3 or 4 honey locusts to do in mid-August but I promised my wife the living room will be ready to use for the holidays and I meant it. Talk about burning the candle at both ends!

Lots of wood for sure. Just remember, none of this is worth a darn if your pushing up daisies. It has just been recently that I had to step back and remember why I was doing all this stuff and at what cost.

Looks like that Maple stump will be coming out. Did you go around it with a trencher? How deep is that trench? Does a trencher cut through rocks? What do you pull the stump with?

Zap I only got around a cord. My buddy who cuts with me got around 3 1/2 to 4 cord. I let him take the majority of the wood as he's only a year ahead, I am around 3 1/2 years ahead. I want to help him build up his woodpile. I got all of the saw logs though. We took the tulip poplar tops to another buddy hat has an OWB. He ended up with almost 2 cord of that stuff. The big poplar logs are getting milled, along with a nice 36" white oak log.

Woody, that is the big red oak that blew down in a storm last week. The rootball came out of the ground, that's what you are seeing in the pic. That rootball (its in another post I did a week or so ago) was 11 feet high!

WD, there are a couple of pics of the poplars in there, cut up in logs on the ground. Yes they were both tulip poplars, nice and straight trunks too. Making some slabs out of them for some rustic benches and tables.

I saw several reports of downed trees on the news and in the Altoona Mirror. Some uprooted and blew over and others broke and splintered. The were many downed trees a few miles from our place. I only knew one of the land owners. He burns wood and his brother in law has processed an impressive pile of firewood already this summer. It sounded like everything was being cleaned up. I'm thankful to be several years ahead with some silver maple to process this summer. It will be a while before I buy firewood which was my hope when we bought our stoves. I'd rather buy gas and oil for my saw and some full chisel chains.

Capt, that little tractor has been sitting in my barn for around 11 years, the carb was varnished really bad in it and I just parked it years ago with the intentions of rebuilding it someday. Well, two weeks ago I had some spare time (that's REALLY rare for me, BTW) and I decided to rip into that old tractor. Tore the old downdraft carburetor apart, cleaned the main jet and the bowl out, drained and cleaned the fuel tank, filled the tank with some fresh 93 octane and carburetor cleaner, installed a new battery and BAM. She fired right up, runs like a top. That old 1965 Sears Custom 6 pulled alot of wood the past two weeks, it even has a super low-range gear. I can see me using it a lot more hauling cordwood on jobsites where I can't get the truck into easily.

Good job Scotty. I know how it is to have too much on your list. I was just thinking the other day how I used to work a full time job and then come home every night and work another 5 or 6 hrs in the garage doing body work. I still did all my other chores or at least as I remember it I did. I finally gave up the car work to the dismay of many good customers because I just wasn't going to burn the candle at both ends. Now a full time job and all my chores still keep me busy and I never seem to get caught up with everything I need to do and can't seem to find the time to even work on my own vehicles. Whats up with that.
