I'd be failing miserably as a Scot if I didn't wish everyone here a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
Here, the sun is just going down for the last time in 2015 and the feast will soon be being laid out for later. Our village is on a hill and so we have escaped the terrible flooding that has terrorised some of Scotland and most of northern England.. but we are a temporary island, as the glen below us has become a loch... It's rather magical! I know that many places in the US have suffered with tornados, or floods or snow and ice storms.. I hope you are all warm and safe.
In Scotland we say, as a blessing, "Lang may yer lum reek!" (Long may your chimney smoke) but that seems like a wholly inappropriate thing to wish anyone with an EPA rated stove, so I'll just say, 'Lang may yr flue emissions be low' instead - although it doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
Thanks to all of you in this wonderful forum, for all the wisdom shared, for all I've learned here, as well as the good humour, patience and endless enthusiasm for wood burning. May you all enjoy, for another year, the wonderful blessing that is a warm and glowing heart(h) of the home.
...and I'd love to see pics your beautiful festive hearths !
