maybe they'll choke on the syrup

Sicko with a sweet tooth. Hope they catch him.

Egads! There has to be a special corner of hell for someone who would do that. Right next to the people that would steal candy from a baby...

Maple syrup is a big business in VT. Hedge funds are buying sugarbushes and in some cases are installing 10 to 100 thousand taps. There are some big commercial processors in the area including a real big one in Island Pond. The hedge funds get involved as the syrup cooperative in Quebec artificially props up the price for maple syrup so the hedge funds can make good profits producing syrup at a far lower cost then the cartel prices. There was a case several years ago where someone tapped into the tanks where Quebec stores the cooperatives inventory and pumped a tanker load of syrup out, then refilled the tank with water. It took the administrators quite awhile to figure out that it had been stolen as they only tracked the volume in the tank. There is large wholesale operation in St Johnsbury VT, that reportedly will gladly pay cash for syrup and not ask any questions that isn't that far from the border

FYI, anyone who taps in Quebec (which is a major producer of maple syrup) has to sell all their syrup to the cooperative and the cooperative sets the price. The farmers dont get paid until their product is sold and it may take a couple of years for it to get sold as there is a surplus of syrup. There are plenty of bootleggers that will drive across the border to sell syrup under the table. If they get caught they get some big penalties from the coop.

Wow. Maple Mafia.

That is ridiculous. And absurd!
