I love this time of year. When friends find out I have had a Pellet Stove for a few years, they think I know all about them and start coming to me with their issues. So I come here and get the answer and I look really smart.
Anyway, a friend has a King Stove. We were discussing Pellets and which ones we get. He never uses Softwood Pellets because his manual states the stove is designed to burn premium hardwood pellets. I noted that a lot of brands are a blend of the two. Is there a reason why they would only burn a Hardwood pellet?

My stove will burn both. The soft wood burns hotter but usually tends to make my auger sqeak On super cold nights I'll run the soft but usually run hard because there's less noise from the auger .

Thanks. But my question was why does the king Stove Manual say it is designed to Burn Hardwood pellets. my friend will not even buy a softwood because of this.

It's probably like I said. The softwoods break up more than the hardwood. My auger sqeaks from the fines . That makes me think there is more wear on the auger and motor. So the stove manufacturer probably knows that and says to use hardwood so people have less complaints and problems.

Thanks. But my question was why does the king Stove Manual say it is designed to Burn Hardwood pellets. my friend will not even buy a softwood because of this.

Probably never updated thier manuals.

I haven't had any problems, I even purchased it used. It was chucked full of ashes. Most people don't realize that you have to clean them regularly clean ,clean, clean to operate properly. Good luck on your quest!
