About to Mag Test M55 - Quick Question

We are just about ready to Mag test our M55 FS (a week ago I would not have had any idea what that sentence meant!). The manual says to to take the reading from the 1/8 inch hole located on the right side of the ash box. Our ash box has two holes on both sides. Any M55 owners out there who can advise? Does it matter which hole I use? Am I crazy or are there two?

Husband is going to get proper tubing now. I promised I'd get an answer while he's gone

We figured it out. I could not be more impressed that I bought a mag and figured out how to use it - with a ton of help from here!

What type of hose and/or fittings did you use? I am at that stage, and can't find tubing that I think can handle the heat while it's sitting in the 1/8" hole. Thanks.

Hi Steve. My husband and I copied the tubing and hardware from this post: https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/just-checked-the-pressure-on-my-m55-insert.104904/#post-1799084

He got everything at Home Depot for less than $10. The metal part on the end goes into the 1/8 inch hole so no issues with the heat. Was quick and easy once he hunted around HD for the right parts. Set the stove to 5, go shopping and you'll be back in an hour when the stove is ready!

So you really just bought the barbed male end? The hose in that picture came with it I think. I think I got it now though. I was going to pull the screw and see, but I believe the hole diameter, once the screw is out, is 1/8" right? So I need something no bigger than 1/8" Outside Diameter. Correct?

Ours didn't come with tubing so we had to buy that as well as those other three metal parts (I'm very scientific!). We copied his exactly. I think you need something smaller than 1/8 and you stick it into the hole. That's what we did. The most narrow part to the far right in that picture is what we stuck in the hole.

Every person reading this is now laughing at what a ding bat I sound like!

I cant find any holes on either side of stove. Side of Ash box? Would it be the part of the stove that the ash pan slides into? Its under bottom of stove.

I found them locally, sort of. A dealer in NH ordered them for me. They are in stock at his MA based distributor. I'll have them next week. $115 out the door.

Ours was on the right side but as you know, we have the FS. Not sure about insert. There were actually two when the manual said there was one. I feel your pain. Between setting the mag gauge and the wireless TStat, I nearly lost my mind. I didn't think I'd have to work that hard after all the $ we spent on the stove an install. However, now both are done and I can't get over the warmth in our house on a bag of pellets a day. You'll get there soon!

I think I mentioned this in the other thread, I just use a football needle as an adapter. Its the needle that you would use to pump up a football or basket ball with a bicycle pump.

On the insert, it is the silver screw you will see at the upper left of the firebox door.

And you're saying you are only using 1 bag of pellets a day? Is it not running all day? With the tstat, you must be off at least 12 hrs, if not more, or running on level 1 or 2 for quite a while. I'm averaging about 2 bags a day right now, but no tstat yet till I get the service rails.

Finally got my hose today, so now just need to get the fittings. I gave it a test around the house for drafts though, and was surprised to see very little needle movement, even sticking the hose up into an open HVAC vent that is drafty. I thought it would move a bit to measure that draft, I certainly do not have to blow or suck on the hose at all to get the needle to move though. Sound right? I bought 3/16" ID hose, and it fits the barbs on the Dwyer gauge perfectly.
