Advice needed on our wood stove.

About 11 or 12 years ago we bought a new Vermont Castings wood stove called a Dutchwest. In looking online it doesn't look like Vermont Castings makes the stove any longer. However, a different company called Majestic looks like the company that handles these stoves.

While adding wood to the stove last night I noticed a crack in what I think is a heat shield bolted on the inside of the stove. I will attempt to include a photo with this post, but at the moment, I'm not sure how to add photos.

So, I would like some advice on this Majestic company as to whether they still make a decent wood stove and on how serious the crack is in the heat shield .

My wife and I really love this stove for several reasons. One reason is the ease of emptying the ashes with the built-in ash pan. Two is the side door for loading wood. Three is the catalytic converter which really gets a good burn going. Fourth is the many controls available that allow us to manipulate each burn session.

I think I found out how to post a photo. I drew a circle around the crack.

All the same company, essentially. They simply moved the Dutchwest brand as an offshoot of VC to be an offshoot of Majestic in 2010, in order to offer cast iron stoves through more dealers. The castings are all produced in Vermont, though assembly was moved last year from Vermont to Halifax, PA after HHT (Hearth and Home Technologies) acquired them in 2014. The part you need is called the grate back, and should be easily sourced through a local dealer or a parts dealer like Woodman's Parts Plus. You'll need the model of your stove to get the right one. Look for the rating tag at the rear of the stove, often hidden behind a rear heat shield, so you may have to remove that for ID purposes.

Well actually dutch west was its own company first but before your stove was made vc acquired dutch west. Vc has been owned by many companies through the years majestic being one of them. And the quality of design and customer service has varied greatly through the years. Parts have at times been very difficult to get a hold of but it seems to be fairly good now you should be able to get that part pretty easily.

Weld a plate behind it, fill the hole with weld, good to go.
