I have a 1994 Vermont Castings Dutchwest stove that I bought new and had professionally installed. A great stove. I would like to replace the catalytic converter. My question: Are aftermarket catalytic converters, which are plentiful for my stove, worth the money ($50 to $150). I can buy a branded Vermont for ~$450 but I won't spend that much. What catalytic converter brands have you bought and what did you spend? I don't need to know where you bought. I want to know why you bought, what you spent and if you think you got proper value for your money. Thank You

There are only a few manufacturers of catalysts. Midwest Hearth and Condar are reliable sellers.

Who moved my post?

I am asking about catalytic convertors NOT Vermont Casting products. I liked it better where it was at. More views. Now I am stuck down here in a few view land.

Thank You for your attention to this matter

Yes, I bought my catalytic converter from Midwest Hearth and it works just fine. If you make some calls you'll find out they are all the same from the same manufacturer.

Yes, aftermarket cats are great. My experience is with aftermarket ceramic cats from midwest hearth on amazon. Cost was half of what the same cat from the same manufacturer would have cost from the stove dealer. Cat life was the same.

If your catalysts is really only 50-150$ and it comes from a reputable vendor like midwest hearth then you have very little risk. Just buy one and try it.
