Afton Bay Igniter/Fuse problem?

Yesterday my husband lit the stove in the morning as usual. It light up but after about 5 minutes the stove shut completely down filling the house with smoke(no power) I looked up what it could be and it said change the fuse. We did that today and we have power but now it looks like the igniter isn't working (could that be what blew the fuse?) I am hesitant to have a repair man out as we just had them out last month to put a new blower in. Can we light the stove without the igniter? Will it just keep blowing the fuse? Will the room blower and stuff come on still??? Is it hard to change the igniter on the Afton Bay?

ok figured out I can light it without the igniter. I order a part. Anyone have some instructions on how to change the igniter or a video for Afton Bay? I really need some help figuring it out.

I'm working from memory here, but it's not hard. Unplug the stove first! You need to remove the sheet metal cover that's just above the rod for the burn pot cleaner, above the ash drawer door. There are two screws with 1/4" heads on each side of the stove. Remove the 4 screws, and the sheet metal cover should come off easily. (The cover runs across the front of the stove.)
You can then see the ingiter, which has two wires to it. Gently tug on the wires to see where they come out, at the right rear of the stove. You need to open the side door on the right, as you're facing the stove. Remembering where they came from, disconnect the two wires, then tie a piece of string or wire to them. I believe that an Allen screw holds the igniter in - loosen that screw, and the igniter will come right out. Carefully pull the wires out of the stove, feeding the string in from the back as you go.

Make sure that the passage the igniter sits in is clear of ash/debris.

Put the new igniter in, pulling the string and wires to the rear of the stove. Tighten the Allen screw, connect the wires, put the cover back on, and done.

Thank you! Thank you! It seems pretty straight forward. I order an after market one for like $60 and will see if it works. For now, just lighting it with the blow torch and it's working fine. :D

You're welcome. One thing I should mention: the original igniter has a collar on it to establish how far in it goes. Some replacements don't have that collar. They can be purchased separately from places like Grainger's, or other supply houses, and they are very inexpensive. Keep the old igniter for reference.
