For the cast iron fans out there:

-There is 3 sizes, same as current fireboxes.
-right or left opening door.
-a concealed cook top, the top plates swing out to the sides.

Also, the concealed cooktop is only big enough to fit about a stove steamer, nothing larger.



Also, the stoves have a hole in the ash lip which leads directly into the ashpan, so that any ashes on the lip can be swept into the hole.

So in a full cast iron stove, is there a double layer? I thought they would only have a firebrick "liner" which rests directly in contact with the cast iron.

In this design, what does the air flow path look like? around sides and top?

This might be the best of a couple of worlds. I am leary of cast or soapstone designs due to the potential for leaky gaskets and seals and the need to rebuild them. The benefit is the nice castings and the massive heat storage compared to plate steel. If this is pretty much a plate steel stove draped in cast iron then we might be getting something. Aesthetics of cast iron are mighty nice too.

Reminds me of that one photo in the gallery of a slab of soapstone covering the entire top of a plate steel stove in order to accomplish heat storage.

I llike the left and right hand door option. And while overall, I do like the new look, I'm not sold on the concealed cooktop. We keep a pot of water on the stove and have the HeatFan. Both wouldn't work with this design in the concealed mode. Looks like black painted is the only option?

I think you would be surprised at the heat even in the concealed position. On the steel versions with the same option you don't need to remove the built in trivet to steam water or make an eco fan run.

Of course this is why I cant wait to burn it. So I can give a definitive yes or no.

Painted is the only option for the 1st year, more colors will follow.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was a bit odd, because Alderlea used to be the name of the town (Duncan) I live in. When I saw it was the newest PE stove, it made sense, because they are made in Duncan! Just a bit of trivia for you.

I'm afraid I'm saying it wrong, much like I said JoeTul instead of Yotul (Jotul). Glad I caught that BEFORE the trade show.

The pronunciation is quite easy. It's like the tree, the alder, with a 'lee' sound after it. The place the train went through was on Duncan's farm and the station was surrounded by alder trees so it was originally called Alderlea, but the local residents called it Duncan's, so after a while Alderlea was dropped.
If you go to the Alderlea web page, there is an old picture on it with a train. I would guess that it's an old picture of Duncan, called Alderlea at the time. Kind of neat a company is honoring the past of the town they are in.

Are you the PE dealer is Hudson, NY? I called all the 'local' dealers and only one will have one (after tomorrow) and the others don't know until they have the distributors meeting. No pricing info either.

They did say the only color is cast iron grey. It is indeed a PE summit with a cast iron surround. The dealerthat will get one tomorrow said it would be $2000 for the T5. Of course, I want a T6 with blower and OAK.

We will see. It is 113 miles to the nearest dealer so I might have to wait a while before I go (especially at $3 per gallon).

Actually I am the Distributor for NY. I got a pre production model to show all my dealers at my open house. It was scheduled for the Sunday and Monday we got that Nor'easter so I cancelled. I have a truckload leaving PE this morning with t5 and t6 models on board. The T4 will be arriving mid August or so. I rescheduled my open house to the end of June so my dealers should be up to speed after that.

The parts blow up looks to show no cast iron on the rear of the stove. The chimneysweeponline site has some of the latest information such as photos the emissions and heat rating but those things are probably the same as the summit. Since this new stove is simply a summit dressed in cast iron I really expected the thing to weigh much more than the summit. Are the cast iron curtains really thin? Maybe completely aesthetic?

I don't have exact comparisons yet but I'll tell you the medium size (t5) id a good bit heavier than the super 27. The cast is definitely for looks but will add some thermal mass. I don't see the cast as being thin at all it seems the same as other steel inside cast outside stoves I have seen. Keep in mind the brunt of the work is being done by the steel firebox. If you aren't concerned about aesthetics get a summit or super 27. I you like the looks get the Alderlea. Either way i feel confident you will have a good unit for years and years.

Hi Jack,

The dimensions of all 3 Alderlea stoves are on the brochure on the PE website. No weights or log sizes or BTUs mentioned, but like you said, it should be close to the original plate steel stoves (27 and summit), so I will go by those numbers for now.

Do you have a showroom too? I drive by Hudson regularly on my way from Rome, NY to Long Island via the Taconic State Parkway. It might be worth it to make a small detour to see the stove in real life. Better than a special 200+ mile trip to a dealer.

Also, Heritage stoves in Macedon said they will have a T5 today in the showroom. How can that be if you as a distributor don't have any? Or am I rocking the boat now?

Also, Adirondack fireplace in Amsterdam is still on the dealers list, even though they haven't sold any PEs in years. That is what they told me. They would have been my closest dealer if not for the fact that they don't sell it anymore. Can you have them removed from the PE website? Might be good for customer service.

Dealers should have them in 2 weeks or so. It takes that long for the truckload to get across the country to me. They say it is because the drivers need to sleep and eat or something. Sheesh.

We're getting our first Alderleas Monday, and can't wait. Apologies to visitors to our website who viewed still-in-production Alderlea pages; the Alderlea models are built on the Vista, Super Series and Summit fireboxes, so we just edited those pages to create the Alderlea pages, and didn't have the Alderlea model shipping weights and viewing window sizes yet, so left them unchanged. We still don't have exact Alderlea viewing window sizes, but got the shipping weight numbers from PE yesterday; here they are, as corrected on our website:

Alderlea T6: 585 lbs.
Alderlea T5: 515 lbs.
Alderlea T4: 450 lbs.
