hi all,
Does anyone have any experience with allegheny pellets?im kinda committed as I had 2 tons delivered today.thanks

Joe

Bought some to try out this year. As they are cheaper than the Barefoots(which I love). So far only burned 2 bags, I'm liking them so far. But its was only in the low 40's

Of the local ones here they r my second favorite. Barefoots are better but Allegheny r cheaper

jbest1 where did you get the Allegheny pellets ??

Higbie Farm Supply in North Chili. They carry 3 different brands Barefoot, Allegheny, and another one I don't remember. Great customer service.

what is the cost per ton.

They were $ 240 a ton but they are out of them at the moment. Have more coming in, but there will be an increase in prices. The barefoots were $280(i think) a ton. Those will be going up in price also. They have not said yet how much.

Thanks . I'll try to swing by there and and check them out...The Barefoots and Drycreek from last year I was not impressed with. ..

The drycreek are indeed very ashy. What was wrong with the barefoots?

When I called around all my somewhat local places these were the most expensive pellets actually. There where very few reviews here that I could find, and the few that I did read were mixed, so I skipped them in favor of Somersets which seem to get really good reviews and were $10 cheaper a ton (plus 5 miles away as opposed to 20, which over doubles the cost difference with the cost of gas). But I'll be watching this thread in case I need some pellets in the winter and have trouble getting the others...

I have burned them for years. I love them. My favorite pellet, I couldn't buy them this year because the dealer could not get them for whatever reason. They are fantastic in my P-43.

I have never burned the Allegheny. Have burned ton and tons of Somerset's. Sets give off good heat, have low fines an low ash. I find them to be a win/win for me.

I love my softies although I had to get 2 ton of blends this year but using them now and saving the softies for the heart of winter here !!!!! The best pellets I ever burned were Pinnacles! !!! They were the hottest and cleanest I have ever burned LG'S have came in 2nd place for me and curran softies are third ... I am anxiously waiting to clean her up and start running the energex through to see if I have a new favorite! !!

The Barefoots were super long, 2 1/2 ", longest I've seen yet, bags were full of fines, dusty... paid premium price, glad I didn't get a ton.. Yes Drycreek were ashy

I don't know which flavor Energex you bought. I would overall expect a bit more btu from them but more ash than from LG. I've burned both in my P61a. I burned probably a half ton of the Energex hardwoods last year, a full ton of the Premiums and half ton of the LG. To me the LG seems to burn up pretty fast. I have a ton of the Energex Hardwoods right now actually, I liked them even with a little added ash ( nice flame with a blue base flame, less height to the flame for the same heat as LG in similar weather conditions). Your experience may vary !!
