Hi Guys,
Just stumbled upon the site a few days back and it looks like a spectacular source of info.
I'm trying to find some info on the type of fireplace I have, but I'm not even sure what to search for. If someone could give me a starting point it would be appreciated. I like to try and search before I ask questions that have been asked 100's of times already.
So anyway, what is this configuration known as? It has a fan in the basement that currently pulls air from that unfinished space, sends it through the firebox via some tubes (I'm assuming a single pass) and blows it out a grill just to the right of the fireplace. Reminds me of a water tube boiler, without the water.
I have 2 flues going up, one from here and another one that goes to the basement which hasn't been used yet. The combustion air appears to be coming from a damper located in the floor of the firebox. There's an ash clean out in the basement, but it's blocked somewhere between the fireplace and the basement. Haven't been able to clean it out, I can get a bar about 36" down and it doesn't go any further.
Anyway, I'm getting off track. So here's the pics and any info on what to search for would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Eric(broken image removed)

Welcome. Looks like a Heatilator unit. Is that a damper control just under the mantel? Make sure the damper is open before starting a fire.

Thanks for the info. I'll do some searching. Yes, that's a damper on the outlet.
Anybody have any ideas on cleaning the tubes? I've punched boilers before, but nothing like this! I can't get my hand up through the lower tubes to reach the upper ones, and they look to have a bit of buildup on them.
Thanks again.

Normally you don't clean out the tubes. They may get a little dust build up and some cobwebs, but that is all.

Oops, sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the outside of the tubes. In the second picture you can see what I'm referring to on the upper pictures.

A long bottle brush like they make for carboys? Fab up an extension handle if necessary.
