I was thinking possibly that but wasn’t sure. It’s freebies so I figured I’d ask.

I’ve got some in the burn pit pile and when it sits it gets that funky green mildew on the outer part of the log. It puts out some black smoke too, I won’t burn it in my stove.

Yes, red cedar. I have some.
I like it for firepit (smells delicious!), but I also like it as 1-2" thick pieces to start a fire.
Some splitter trash and 1 cedar stick like that and it goes fast.

It’s perfect for burning down coals and when you need some more heat on those super cold nights, but can’t reload yet.

Don’t sell it short! It’ll do a job worthy of praise if you give it the right job!

The red cedar we have over here is a juniper.

Looks like cedar, i have a few stacks of that mixed with some hemlock. Good to get the fire going quick; not terrible for burns when you’re around. I split mine into big chunks.

Juniper, eastern red cedar, is the best of the cedars that I have burned. I have gotten it from time to time as part of a scrounge cleanup. I split it big, if it is a big one, and it burns just fine in my stove. I wouldn't drive to get it and I wouldn't want a whole bunch of it, but I would not turn it away if someone was going to drop it here. It beats willow or cottonwood, anyway.

I have burned western but not eastern so I cant compare to be fair, but I am always looking for cedar as it makes excellent kindling, short hot fires, shoulder season etc.It mostly grows on the other side of the state from me.
