anyone care to guess HD prices next season?

Home depot started the fall season selling mediocre pellets at 269.00 ton most places.
many areas including mine the prices drastically dropped to 199.00 ton.
[ at least 50-60 tons in the indoor/outdoor area here last week, Chows &Nations choice].
between warm winter, low oil prices and the Obvious gouging this year which sent people
to other places or to spend a bit more for better quality,
what do u think will be HD's strategy next season?

My homedepot already quit selling Englander stoves so it would not surprise me if they drop selling pellets either.

If oil is still hovering at $30 a barrel, the suppliers may not be able to cut their production cost enough for many big box retailers to have enough margin. Many retailers may refuse to carry pellets.

If the Arab states cut production and surpluses fall, pellet pricing should remain at current levels.

Thats the price now, that was the price at the beginning of the season. I dont see the prices dropping anywhere in this area.

Yeah, I'd be more betting if they have pellets at all and secondly are they fresh or this years left over stock.

they'll probably be last year's pellets, too.

You can always go down the street a mile to the independent dealer that also sells stoves to be insulted and treated like dirt.

I don't see prices moving either and expect either a drastic cut back on what they carry, or at the very least, they will stay at the same price for the old pellets still in the system.

More importantly, how many pellet mills will still be in business next year AND supplying the domestic market (as opposed to shipping overseas). And alongside that, will the trend be to sell timber for making roads for "green" projects make all wood products so expensive that there is no way for any of the suppliers or retailers to move the prices down? Heck, I'll bet they could figure out a way to make the pellets work for the interior temporary roads and then what type of creek would we all be at?

Pellets are used for many more thing than just us burning them in our stoves. I know that the fracking in was using 1000's of tons a day last year. Not sure now since it sounds like the fracking drilling is slowing down do to oil prices being low.... The guy I know that owns a mill said the small home heating was a just a small sliver of his yearly sales. He has a mill in Indianapolis area, near Dayton OH and Philly.
