Anyone notice Holmes on Homes installed a Blaze King Princess Insert in a home?

Not sure how many on here watch it, but it really caught my eye. Mike was repairing a house with improperly installed brick that was crumbling and a heating system that didn't work at all (as well as other problems) where the homeowners were freezing in the winter. As part of it, they inspected the wood burning stove and liner and decided to put an all new one in.

They installed a Blaze King Princess which Mike described as "The Cadillac of fireplace inserts" I believe, described it as the cleanest and longest burning stove insert on the market, and described the 20 hour burn time it can have while heating the house.

Honestly, what really caught my eye was the fact that it was a frigging gorgeous insert. I.e. So pretty, and with such long burn times, I might need to weigh how much I'd get on trade-in of my lopi republic 1750 and see if I want to swap over

Also, does anyone know the firebox size of the princess? If I had to do it again, I'd go for a ~2.8-3.2 cf firebox.

Good Grief how can you live in a house that looks like that? I would betcha the house looks just as bad on the inside now as it did then.

2.8 cu ft is the claimed firebox size for the Princess.

It's actually close to advertised and that's usable space. If anyone needs exacts I can put a tape on it again since I can't remember the specifics.

That would be nice for the shoulder season but during the dead of winter you're going to be loading it more often like everybody else. The 16" log length made me steer way from it.

Great stoves, i would buy another.
I cut 19" logs and they fit fine. If you dial this stove in, a good load before bed will leave a nice pile of coals in the AM.
Fill it up and start over.

I see you have a Summit, I had the exact opposite feeling when looking at the 20" deep firebox of the Summit. I'll never cut my wood that long(heavier to handle, longer to season) so after taking the extra depth out of the firebox size consideration it's not a 3 cubic foot firebox. The Princess will take a 17" split on the bottom row loaded n/s and 18" will fit after you're above the bricks.(even longer above the bricks if you wanted)

I agree once it's cold and you need heat the long burn times won't be the same as the shoulder season but the shoulder season makes up a good part of the heating season. I'm hoping to have a more steady heat output with the BK this season, soon enough I'll be finding out.

Good info, thanks guys.

Personally, I think I'd dial it in for 12 hour burns overnight. The ability to "dial-in" a burn time though is pretty priceless. The object is to get maximal heat and still be ready for a hot reload - if that stove is churning out 10,000-15,000 BTUs/hr non-stop overnight, then it's leagues ahead of my current overnight setup.

They need to change their brochure then. It says 16" long length and I figure since they said something that short they weren't stretching the truth. The Summit says 20" and 20" will fit but the glass gets dirty. I cut to 18".

12 hours with enough coals for an easy reload is a stretch. You need some kindling to go that long, but 10 hours in the Summit is easy to do.

Nice inserts tho. Had a hard time even getting quotes on them from CDN distributors here in Ottawa. Called 2 a couple of years back and they both said they'd have to call me back with a quote and neither did. After that I got a little concerned about Canadian warranty, service, parts etc and bought a Regency.

Since they are also manufactured and have a large operations facility in Kelowna/Penticton BC Canada I think you would of been OK with your Canadian warranty.
