New to pellet stoves Just wondering what is a lot of ash? compared to not a lot....... Right now I am burning SIH's (burning on low 1-2) they have a very fine ash.... I am sure in the next few weeks I will know trying different pellets to see what burns the best....

From what I could tell some ash is gritty and some is dusty. However I havent seen too much of a difference on heat output. I use cheap home depot brands though.

Yup, get some Green Supremes or NEWP and learn what a crappy pellet is. It's all uphill from there!

I found this surfing the web -- a listing of a bunch of Eastern and Midwestern pellets, with measurements of heat output, ash volume, ash weight, fines, etc. It's a pretty good summary of the qualities of various pellets. That report is very old now. I don't think ANY of the DF's are in it. Not to mention quality has changed since then for more than a few companies.

You want light, fluffy ash... not heavy, sooty ash.
