I was lurking here a few weeks ago and saw someone post about a shield that actually attached to the stove pipe and reflected heat. I have searched the boards over and cannot find that post. Can anyone direct me to it or tell me the name of the product?

Shields that are attached to stovepipes are used to reduce the required clearance of the pipe to combustible walls. Most typically you see them on single-wall stovepipes where the standard 18" clearance requirement needs to be reduced. Reflection has little to do with how they function. What they do is create a ~1" vertical channel for airflow between the shield and the stovepipe for the development of a natural convective flow to carry heat up and out. Yes that is the link. Thanks alot. The application in mind was so that I could reduce the clearance on my pipe from 26 " to 20". I am trying to avoid stacking three pieces of stoveboard up my wall. Do you think it will work?
I think it should work.
My pipe is 18 inch from the wall and the heat shield makes a lot of difference in the wall temps. I know it will darn sure help.

that is just what my manual states. I posted the manual here - https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/28582/
You can see it on figure 2 of page three. under 1t instalation the distance of Y which appears to be the pipe from the wall is 26".
What that's telling you is that you need 24" from the back of the stove to the wall, which means the stovepipe ends up 26" from the wall. Adding shielding to the stovepipe won't allow you to place the stove closer than 24". You need to shield the wall behind the stove, not the pipe above the stove. Rick
I have a shield for the stove. I was planning on taking it all the way to 3" from the cieling to account for the decrease in pipe clearance because my stove will be sitting at 18". So you don't think that is what the manual intended? I understand that that is what is meant by the 24"/stove = 26"/pipe. But reducing the stove with a shield does not neccesitate the same shield for the pipe?
If not that is Great! My problem is solved! I still might get that pipe shield though just because it is cool. But wait! I just looked at the manual for my wall shield and it shows it going all the way to the cieling! I says a minimum of one inch from the ceiling and maximum of 3 " from the ceiling. Agghhhhh!

Aha! the diagram showing it going to the cieling is with a rear flue exit unit with only 12" from the pipe to the wall! It does not even show my type. (straight up to the sky) Ah. 18 inches over the extremeties of the appliance.
Ya know, if you would just describe the whole installation...stove, where it's going, and how...connector pipe, chimney and how, and maybe post a couple of pics of where you're at with it and explain what you're trying to accomplish, we could prob'ly be a whole lot more helpful. Rick
