Auto draft blower?

hey guys i was thinking of making my draft a lil better this year. As when i open my door and im not so patient ill get smoke into the house. This little invention looks pretty cool snd its not very expensive. Has anyone have had any eerience with it? Was also thinking maybe it will let me lower my stove to get get longer burn times.

Even longer burn times when you have a BK King??? Is a week not enough?

I would see what @BKVP has to say about that contraption. Maybe it is ok to use when you have opened the bypass but you may get problems with the cat and thermostat when running it during the burn. From the rest of your post it sounds a simple adjustment of your operating procedure may already eliminate the smoke problem. And have you thought about extending the chimney? How tall is it?

There are a couple bandaid fixes like this on the market. The drawcollar is another. Often the simpler, less expensive and more elegant solution is to add a bit more chimney to improve draft.

BeGreen Be Right. However, the item in question has been used quite successfully for many types of wood stoves in the 7kft+ elevation where drafting can be an issue.

You would only run it during the reload process or perhaps initial loading.

If you have exhausted all the regular suggestions, double wall, extended chimney, smoother transitions (if needed) etc., this may help you.

I have one of these on my stove. One of the best things ever. I like it because you never get smoke in the house when you open the door and it can really allow you to get your fire going fairly quickly.
As far as longer burn times go I am able to choke my stove down pretty good now and haven't experienced any backpuffing since the fan. Before the fan backpuffing was an issue for me.

How tall is the chimney?

I have double wall black pipe inside from stove straight up 41 inches then into (2) 45 degree elbows. Outside i have class a doubke wall insulated class a pipe. Bought it from metal fab i think the chimney is 15 ft or 18ft tall. I have to go out and triple check. I was thinking of adding another 4 feet pipe outside but then i think the pipe would be too long for the support brackets.

I am a beginner to wood burning so im sure ill get better as years go. But i got a very nice home theater room now with the my king ultra and don't want any smoke or ash coming out especially when im cleaning Out the stove.

As far as the stove running in cat mode would this help or hurt with burn times im sure experimentation will be needed but i just wanted to ask. Or not even have it on when in cat mode. But last year my longest burn i had was roughly 24 hrs. Which in know way i am complaining i know i can do better as I understand the stove, wood, fan, air much better now. But i do love electronic gadgets and was hoping this could help.

But like i said its most important purpose for me would for the reloading smoke and ash cleaning.

Even 2 ft added can make a difference. 3 - 4ft. is even better. How frequently is the chimney bracketed? Can you take a picture of the chimney and post it here?

I personally cant stand those things they are a band aid that rarely even helps to mask the issue. And many times can cause more problems than they solve.

Just went out and took picture sorry for the glare, sun is on other side house now. Its 16 feet the chimney. Up top where the support bracket is for the roof if i add another piece of chimney i pretty sure the instruction only stated a certain height that the bracket supports.

How do i check of i have down draft when not burning. Well i check the internet also to see what i find.

There needs to be a roof bracket once for every 5 ft above where the pipe exits the roof. Is there already a roof bracket close to the cap? If so you can add another 2-3 ft. Is there a cricket (snow diverter) on the upside of the flashing? Also note that to a certain extent the front slope of the stove may be contributing to slight smoke spillage. Waiting a bit after opening the thermostat and bypass to let the smoke clear before opening the door should help.

No cricket. I also had no idea you can add another bracket above the one i have installed. Their is one roof bracket on the pipe now. Begreen they make brackets that long? The one i have now is already fully extended and back when i was looking at longer brackets from metal fab i couldnt find one on their website.

Yes the smoke spileage was mostly human error. But cleaning the stove no matter what i did and how slow i went i could not stop the ash from coming out.

I just assume with help with this blower even with human error i wont have to worry about these problems.

Is their a huge bad thing that i dont understand about this blower?

Any i have seen suck air into the pipe which cools the smoke increasing creosote buildup. Then if that creosote catches fire you have a blower feeding it air. Besides that there are no stoves designed to work with them. I have pulled several out and fixed the real problem. I did put one in that they only had in place in the summer. they had problems with condensation in the stove and chimney and they also regularly got back drafts in the summer. It did fix that problem but lets try to actually fix your problem not just cover it up.

Hey im all about getting a extra piece of chimney if it will fix the problem. I just saw this and it makes common sense that the ash/smoke particles will go up when im cleaning and reloading the stove. But I also see what your saying about creosote.

I keep my pipes clean lol as i have invested in the proper equipment to clean em.

In some cases yes in some it was house pressurization issues one the chimney had allot of air leaking in the bottom. There can be lots of factors

so ill order a extra 4 foot pipe and find a extra long brackett to attach it, a cricket while im add it also. If that domt work then ill chim back on this thread during the colder months .

It could be you have negative or near negative pressure. Competing appliances or leakage on the floor above can exacerbate the problem. This could be bath or kitchen fans, clothes dryer, gas or oil hw heater, etc.. Is the stove in the basement? If so does it have an outside air kit?

Thats probably it then the negative pressure, as I have fans blowing heat upstairs.

Turn them off before cleaning ash. Also be sure no other exhaust fans are running, including the clothes dryer.

smoking is likely from negative pressure as BeGreen says.
if you open a door or window near the stove and the problem goes away, i'd add an outside air kit to the King.

your blazeking dealer should have discussed the possibility of this happening before installation.....!

Hey begreen i posted a picture of the roof bracket i bought from metal fab max length is 60 inches. If i add another 4 feet of chimney do you know of brakcets out their that are longer? I mean i think im gonna need like a 10 foot bracket.
