Avalon Rainier Bricks

Hey folks, just picked up an Avalon Rainier from Craigslist. Couple of the bricks looking cracked and I was thinking of replacing.

I was also thinking of replacing them with slightly shallower bricks to increase the firebox height (much lower then I imagined), is this crazy?

Either way let me know you two cents on replacing bricks.

It already has the thinnest bricks available. You can pick them up at any hearth store, rural king, and most hardware stores.
