Hey, it has been quite some time since I have posted, so long in fact that I had to make a new account. I had a ton of help years ago when I installed a stove in my old house. Just thought I would share a few of the details of my new install hopefully with a few pics if my computer skills are up for it.
Seeing as I live in a city where natural gas is cheaper than water I only supplement with wood heat. I ended up with a Jotul 602 because I liked the look. The look of 6" pipe coming off the the 5" collar of the stove did not look right in my opinion so I decided to rear vent directly into class A and then enclose it in a chase. I built the hearth out of 1 1/4 granite but needed additional r-value so I removed the hardwood and installed some durock to meet the requirements. I ended up cutting all the bricks in half because my labour is free and bricks were rather pricy. Local building codes require combustion air to solid fuel appliances so I ran a 4" duct down the chase to an old vent that I can close off when not needed.
