I enjoy having nice, crunchy croutons on my salads and soups.
They are easy to bake on a wood stove with a hot top.
I simply heavily butter several slices of bread that's past it's prime, then slice it into cubes.
Toss the cubes onto a baking sheet, Dutch Oven or saucepan. Do not cover.
Add whatever flavoring you might like, such as garlic and onion powder.
Put the pan on top of your wood stove with a reasonable fire going in it.
Every five to ten minutes or so, stir up the cubes with a spoon.
After 20 minutes or so you will notice that they get nice and crunchy.
They are done, and you have a nice supply of croutons and used up that stale bread!
AMAZE the wife!
