Being the first winter I've had the echo battery saw, I took it out just to make a few cuts yesterday and the saw cut out and and triggered the battery safety shut off after just a few second. The saw and battery were in the cold garage (about 35) but even after taking a battery in to warm it up a bit, still same thing. is this normal for battery saws to not work in cold temps? Big negative on battery saw if thats the case.

It may take longer to warm it up (2 hours), and then recharge it. Do as much as you can with it under warranty.

I will do that. It did the same with both batteries I have. That's a big chunk of the year cutting wood that this saw won't be worth much to me if it stays an issue.

And there is the issue with battery powered stuff, which includes vehicles.
Charging times, battery issues ...
If that happens then you are dead in the water
With gas powered stuff you at least can fix it and carry on

Did you go with the earlier 58V Echo battery system or the newer 56V system? I may have to do something other than using gas saws as my main saws, health issues. I have Ryobi 40V 16" and I've used a fair bit but I don't believe it's going to hold in the long run. All my batteries are 4.0Ah so they're on the small side but typically two batteries will fill up my 17cu.ft. Agri-Fab garden cart. Which is really enough to give me a break and haul in unload go back. Two loads and I'm spent out.

I have the 56v batteries.

Being just a 12" top handle saw, its a limbing saw and not a primary firewood saw. However, dealing with temperature issues on a saw when I want to use it is a bit of a PITA. Maybe I have it figured out now though.
