Bear Mt are good pellets.

Not quite as good as Golden Fire but still a good buy and they burn good too.

where is the best deal bearmountian in the seattle area dayville farm in snohomish $245.00 ton best i found

AA Stove in Tacoma has Bear Mtn for $284/ton right now. I need to check around more though. That is the same price as last year. They sure burn HOT compared to Blazers. I plan on getting a ton of Bear Mtn for the coldest part of winter and using the Blazers for shoulder season.

That company does sell a Douglas fir pellets and as soon as its leader gets me 2 sample bags I'll be more than happy to do my review on them as well. If Bear Mountain wants to see how they stack up? They will have to send a sample to me as they aren't available in my area. The brands you see in my reviews are all local pellets to me in the NE area.

I've been burning mostly Blazers. I wish Bear Mtn would send you a couple of bags. When I put Bear Mtns in my stove, there was a big difference in heat output. They would very likely blow everything else away including the Blazers. Too bad I don't live in Oregon because up here on the South side of Seattle, I can't get them for anything less than about $285/ton which is a big difference from the approx. $200/ton I can get Blazers which are only 1.5mi away at my local HD. So, I might just stick with Blazers for now. One thing I did notice about the Bear Mtn was that the pellets were much shorter than the Blazers. Maybe they seem hotter just because more pellets get fed into the stove on each turn of the auger?

I have yet to figure our how he gets away with the prices he charges. When two or three miles away you can get Clean Burn for $209/ton. I like the Bear Mtn, but not $1.49 a bag more.

Right now Del's farm Supply has Eureka pellets for $189/ton. Going to p/u 5 bags and see how they do. If I like them I plan to stock up for the rest of the season.

My dealer (Rich @ Foothills Fireplace and Grills) is going to OR to get some supplies. He is going to check the price of Bear Mtn pellets for me. I told him if he can get it cheaper than A&A, then I would buy from him.

He used to deal in Bear Mtn pellets, but he said he got a lot of complaints about ash, low heat and etc. I have a hard time with that as they were substantially hotter than Clean Burn and Blazers when I tried 2 bags. About the same ash as Clean Burn. But the pellets themselves seem to be smaller dia. and shorter. Either they have better Douglas Fir they are using compared to Blazer or Cleanburn, or the smaller pellets fill up the auger better and you get more lbs for each drop of the auger. I'm not sure which.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time justifying the $298/ton they want for the Bear Mtn now. Especially when people in OR can get them for around $200/ton.

BTW, Rich has been stocking North Idaho Energy pellets. He should have another shipment in a week or so. I plan on trying these too.

Talked to Arrow lumber in Orting this morning. Clean Burn Pellets $199.00 / ton.

Not bad. Check Craigslist...I've been seeing Cleanburns from someone in Enumclaw for $190/ton. Arrow is pretty close to me as I'm just up the hill from there.

Yeah, I was looking this morning and a guy in Sulton has Eagle Valley pellets for $160/ton.

Enumclaw is advertising Clean Burns on Craigslist for $200/ton.

I'm going to get a thermometer installed on my stove to check heat output on these pellets. So far, for the money, it's hard to beat Cleanburn as they are a lot less ash than Blazers. Maybe slightly more heat, but it's hard to tell with seat of the pants measurements. That's why I want a thermometer so I can compare a little better.

Are you going to go with a probe style in the stack? Or on top of the stove?

Probe style in my convection fan vent. Just trying to get one that can be clipped onto the M55 without touching the steel of the heat exchanger. It doesn't have louvers like a lot of stoves, so I may have to get creative.

Stay away from the Eagle Valley pellets. They are horrid unless your stove can handle horrid pellets. Something like a harman that can catch lots of ash before it requires cleaning would be best.

I can't see how there would be any any major difference between the Bear Mtn and Blazers........although this years batch of blazers definitely makes less ash than last years and burns just a tad colder.....I also noticed this years blazer pellets are longer......so many variables from year to year.....I noticed a lot of sap in last years batch compared to this years.

HD had them for 187 a ton last year, this year they are 209 a ton....still the best deal out there.

I want to order 6 pallet of blazers from HD but they are telling me they do curbside delivery only now?

I have used Blazers ($3.90/bag), Bear Mt ($4.35/bag) and Natural Glow ($3.84/bag) this year and last year as well. These are the three brands available in my immediate area. Bear Mt pellets are good pellets but not so exceptional to justify the higher price. The cheapest pellet, Natures Glow, is my stoves favorite and is produced locally. Blazers are always a good pellet and I always grab a few bags when I am at Home Depot.

Hi J,

I think there is something odd with your burn time testing. Some brands burn 13 h, others like 26h ? Is one the time for two bags and the other just one bag ?

Been using an oven thermometer to test heat output on three brands ( Eureka, Blazer, and Bear Mtn).
Blazers burn a little bit hotter than the Eureka with similar ash.

The Bear Mountain pellets, however, are far superior in terms of heat output. The air temps coming out of my stove are consistently 15 - 25 degrees hotter (depending on the stove setting) with the Bear Mountains over the other two brands. The difference, even without the thermometer, is VERY noticeable.

I can't afford 300/ton but I am buying a few bags every time temps get down to 30 and lower, which hasn't been too often lately.

UPDATE ON THE LINE ABOVE: Expecting snow in Seattle this weekend...purchased a dozen bags of Bear Mtn after work today. We'll wait and see if the snow actually arrives.

I cannot tell the difference between Bear Mountain and Pacific Pellet, re: heat output and ash. They do look different but that’s about it, other than the price. As you know McLendon carries Pacific Pellet and right now they are having another sale, $4.39/bag. After you mentioned that buying by the ton was cheaper than buying by the bag I went and picked up a ton last week, $230.68 w/tax. I may get a half ton now that they are on sale, until the 22nd. I’m going to stick with Pacific Pellet as long as I can get them.

I use to buy my Bear Mountains at Federal Way Fuel Products, LLC.

I assume he still carries them. He used carry Sierra Gold brand of Bear Mountain and they were a little less than AA Stoves, price wise.

Some of the test's were with 1 bag and some were with 2 bags. I get samples donated. Some would only send me 1 bag due to shipping costs. I perfer doing a 2 bag test were possible, But if they only send one I will still burn them. Just double the time for the single bag burns.

I've noticed similar results with the Pacific Pellet. As hot as Bear Mtn.
