Question:
Good day, We have a very old house which has a masonry fireplace. We looked into wood burning inserts but we were unable to find one with tolerances that would let us use our existing mantle. Not willing to give up the mantle we continued the search and found a company that will install a "bellfire" insert. The bellfire is supposed to refract heat back into the room and they also claim to have a smaller chimney opening which will cut back on heat loss up the chimney. Can you give me any input on bellfire or other similar companies? Thanks
Answer:
These units have a decent reputation and will definitely be much better than a regular fireplace. Since they are open fireplaces, they do not have as high an efficiency as do the inserts...but still are quite nice. If the look and fit suits you, you may be very happy with the Bellfire.
