My husband wants an insert that will look like the quad fire and put out enough heat to heat the whole house. Our home is 1 level, 2000 sq ft, 20 ft ceiling in great room. We wish we put a quad fire in but our builder assured us that this Danish fireplace would heat our whole house. It has fire shield behind it. It actually does heat the house well but uses too much wood. We're thinking about the PE Summit Insert but my dh doesn't love the look of it and is nervous about relying on the blower. Any suggestions?

I think any insert will need the blower to be effective. I have a hampton stove and love it...enamelled insert. It will burn overnight with hardwood. Depends on your budget and tastes. People on the site rave about their summits, osborns, etc. I think they are probably all pretty nice. Go for 2.5 plus cu ft box and enjoy. These require a masonary chimney. If you do not have one look at the lennox bis (built in stove) those are nice as well. Good luck.
