Have many people tried this with success? I know the manual says it's ok, but there just seems to be a lot of conditions on how to install.

I've determined my prefab fireplace is large enough, and the flue is 8" so should be good for a 6" SS liner install. I still don't know if my current fireplace is UL 127 listed as I can't find any info on the unit itself. House was built in 1994-5 so is it even possible it is UL 127?

The nearest BK dealer doesn't service my area.. maybe I can talk them into coming down in the slow (spring/summer) season.

Usually there is an ID tag on the inner front frame of the fireplace at the bottom or on the side. See if you can find it. Also, post a picture of it here. Maybe someone can ID it visually.

The front of the firebox is 35", it's about 20" deep, and the back wall is 23 5/8"wide. Floor to lowest part of ceiling is 23 3/4", refractory panels are 20" high. It does have two plates riveted onto a heat shield or something inside the fireplace, but I can't get a single letter off either even after cleaning.

ok.. I decided to pop the info panels off to give them a good scrubbing.. One plate just has usage instructions, the other has the important stuff. So far I can see it's a Majestic MRC42A, I do see that it has the UL logo, but don't see anything about UL 127. Anyone happen to have a manual that shows it's UL 127 rated, or will I have to contact Majestic?

Thanks begreen, I'll contact them.. I saw in the manual it says "Do not install a fireplace insert or other products not specified for use with this fireplace".. So I think my chances are slim..

Hang in there, that specification could be UL 127.

Sounds like my dreams of a BK Princess are dashed.. Majestic bought out CFM in 2008 and says they won't answer questions on products produced before then.. and CFM is out of business. So I guess I'd have to replace the factory built fireplace first, and then do the BKPrincess raising my costs substantially.. The manual does say UL report MH6018, but I don't know what that means and even a search on the UL website came up with bumkiss..

Or, is this a viable option.. the freestanding princess needs 2' of pipe before an elbow. So could I go up like 5' on the wall and tap into the existing flue and bypass the fireplace completely? then just seal over the fireplace hole?
