Installing a "new" Blazeking KTJ302 ... its from 1977-1983, but only burned ~1 cord b4 being retired to storage. I'm going to use it in my wood shop, on a wood subfloor in a wood framed wall, alcove. Trying to determine good set backs/clearances for this pre epa model stove. I plan on installing a tile hearth onto cement backerboard and corrugated sheet metal sides and back, onto cement backerboard. Trying to properly interpret the NFPA (211) guidelines for clearances applicable to this model stove. Can anyone guide me to this info? The owners manual only details clearances to combustibles, not non combustibles.

The manual's language hints at the option for proper wall shielding, but it doesn't phrase it too well. In the case described, the closest the stove can be installed to the back and side walls is 12" with NFPA 211 ventilated (open top and bottom) wall shields. However, the stove pipe will have an 18" clearance if single-walled unless the wall shields continue up to protect up to the support box. I don't see it defined, but safety says that the ceiling should be at least 84" high.

I provided the same guidance in earlier email. Additionally, check with local inspector to make certain plans are acceptable.
Also, that model is not EPA Approved. If you are in Washington state. The fine is $11,500.00. This is routinely reinforced by WA Dept of Ecology.

12" back and sides (with vented walls) is perfect. The hearth (floor, tile on cement board) will be total width of stove + (2) 12" setbacks ... but the depth will be determined by, 12" back + stove depth + front hearth depth ... which is what? 18"? Beyond stove face or beyond open doors depth? Not clear on that part.
