Hi,

I'm looking at a craigslist ad with what is being claimed as a Blaze King Queen for sale. Here's the link.

(broken link removed to http://spokane.craigslist.org/for/4744228119.html)

I've been in contact with him, and he's adamant that it's a "Queen". Could this be true? I've never heard of a queen. I'm trying to get some pictures or a model number out of him. It's a 2 hr drive to go look at it, so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks!

About Blaze King:

The only catalytic wood burning stoves that I allow in the shop are the Blaze King "Princess" and the Blaze King "King." In talking to the folks at Blaze King Industries they never made a "Queen" model. I wonder how the Princess came along? I suspect a long time cover up in this story. A Princess or a King would be this fat man's choice as a main heat source because of its extremely long burn and heat temperature control. I hate the cold!

Yeah, that's the only mention of it that I found too. I think maybe he's just confused or mis-informed.

He says it has a cat, so if I can get him to confirm somehow that it's a princess/king, this might be a pretty good steal.

Either way if the stove is ok 250 is cheap even if you have to buy a new cat and maybe even a door gasket..cheap,real cheap.
But if it's the old style BK cat I don't think it's as efficient, Chris(BKVP on here) would know.
Different cat placement i think.

Hmmm. I've been wondering about the efficiency of the older cat blaze kings. I'll look up Chris' discussions about it.

I know the earliest cat Princess is the PEJ-1002 which the EPA says puts out 3.7g/hr compared to 2.4g/hr for the PEJ-1006 (the new one). Particulate output doesn't necessarily correlate to efficiency, but the difference here doesn't seem too bad. I'm interested to see what burn times Chris gets, since that's what I'm really concerned with. I can't afford even a used PEJ-1006, so I think an older princess is what I'm looking for either way.

New cat's are usually a little more that $300, right? I hope this one has a healthy cat.

The new ones are around there no idea about the older style,I think they are round even.

It looks like the model I'm looking for is the PEJ-1002. I was wrong, this was not the first cat princess, but it was the first EPA cat princess. I think the PEJ-1003 will likely be out of my price range, as it has very similar styling to the PEJ-1006. Here's what Chris had to say about it back in 2011:

"Just for comparison purposes, the KT series of wood stoves were made from 1977-1983 and where great heaters. Unfortunately they did not burn as clean or as efficient as the newer models. Old KT's and PT's were probably more than 60 gr/hr and the new models are all well below 2.5. The Chinook 30 is actually 1.0 gr/hr.

If you are looking to get a good deal on an efficient and clean burning used Blaze King, look for models KEJ1101, KEJ1102, KEJ1107 (current model) and Princess models PEJ1002, PEJ1003 and PEJ1006 (again current model)"
