Breckwell's are Breakwell's?? According to one installer...

I called an installer for my p23i and he asked me what brand I purchased. I stated a Breckwell and the first thing out of his mouth was, ah, Breakwell. After more conversation, I don't think his issue is with the actual stove but more from the support of their customer service, or lack thereof.

He also stated he has a Harman Accentra in his home that has been trouble free for five years and they are top of the line but also said he has a customer with the same insert that has had problem after problem. I told him it's luck of the draw. There is no company that has 100% reliability and at times there will be issues.

The only reservation I have from my on-line stove purchase is if a warranty issue should present itself. There may be issues with getting a local dealer to service the unit under warranty if it was purchased elsewhere. Time will tell...
 
I bought a Breckwell Big E online from Rural King and it went smoothly.

I have since purchased another stove, not becuase the Big E had problems, it just wasn't all I thought it was. So I'm going to be swapping it out in a few weeks and selling it.

It's a good stove for the money.

As far as Breckwell's tech support goes I have no complaints with them. They always called me back and were very knowledgable with the stove.

Always resolved whatever issue I called about.

So don't sweat the tech support.

One thing I did like about the Big E is it's simplicity. I'm not a hands-on person but am still able to remove the blowers, give it a full cleaning and reassemble it.

So this tells me I could do most if not all the service.

Saves money and time and also if you do the work yourself it always gets done to your satisfaction.

That's where my p23 is coming from.

I'm very handy so replacing components is not an issue but am more concerned that if I need a replacement part under warranty, I will have to go through a local dealer for this service. I'm just hoping Breckwell will honor the warranty if this occurs as I did not buy from the local company.

Should be no problem getting parts directly from Breckwell under the warrentee.

When the stove arrives you register it with them and from then on you deal with them directly.

That's why I've been getting the free tech support over the phone.

They have a parts dept too. Call them up and ask them.

Dial 112 for the parts dept and ask them.

And/Or dial 106 for Don in sales and he should know.

Personally, I'd have a problem paying an guy to install my new stove after he make a comment like that ( Breakwell ).

very unprofessional.

It's a red flag.

I'd look for someone else.

I'm not sure i could be much more content with my Big E. She's no prom queen, but I wouldn't have bought it if it were the centerpiece of my livingroom.
 
Come on guys don't be bashing the Breckwells. For the money they are good stoves. Yes they aren't the quietest and some are kinda ugly!
They run good as long as there maintained and throw good heat. I for one think they are easy to maintain and service. Just don't expect to heat as much sq. feet as they say. If you want a great stove then you will have to spend double what the Breckwells are going for. You get what you pay for these days.

I'll second this Plus add--- i have seen alot of problems on hearth.com with stoves that cost twice as much as my big e did.
 
My P24I has been running since 1992 with no major issues. Needs a new combustion motor (150$)... otherwise runs like a champ.

Here Here! Been burning my lil p22 Charm since '95 and have yet to replace anything other than gaskets. It's a simple stove, still have to use gel (some of us here still know what this is!) but for it's intended purpose, it just flat out performs. Maybe I'm a little biased here, but when I look @ the new breckwell's, especially the P22's, mine just appears to better crafted with better materials. Back in '95 there weren't the number of manufacturers as there are today, nor were their product lines as diverse. Would I buy another Breckwell today? I really don't know as there are so many good stoves to pick from, but if I didn't it wouldn't be because I felt that quality and craftsmanship were an issue. She's been good to me!

I think the heat is the most important thing. Other stoves like the Bixby UBB are ugly too! There aren't any complaints about them. Just as long as its reliable and throws heat who cares what they look like. Unless thats what your looking for and expect to pay alittle more too!

My Big-E not to bad had to replace control board (warranty). My P2000FS WHAT A NIGHTMARE, Breckwell is slow to respond to customer complaints. This stove has had a burning problem since day one.

Excessive ash build up on windows. 3 control boards, one convection blower. Dealer instealled with a horizontal vent, breckwell said I needed to change that to improve burn so another $300.00 later still no improvement in the burn. Dealer adjusted door, blew stove out with compressor, tried new door. THE P.O S. still will not burn right. Heavy black ash and soot everywhere, dealer won't replace without approval from Breckwell, Breckwell will not return calls. I will never recommend this pellet stove (P2000FS) to anyone. Finally removed from house as the stove filled up burn pot on settings 3 and 4 with damper open all the way. It's not the control board as the timing of the auger cycle matches what the manual says it should.

BUYER BEWARE.
 
Have had my Big E for almost 5 years now and I love it. One convection blower under warranty and a high temp thermodisc out of pocket-14 dollars ,isn't bad. It's not the prettiest or the quietest but it throws the heat and is damn efficient. She burns every last pellet.:)
 
ahhhh.... threads about stoves, good and bad, usually there will be both sides of the equasion , hey , breckwell makes a respectable product. ive seen em and watched em run , nothing inherantly wrong with them design wise, like any other product ocasionally they may have an issue , every brand does though its not the norm. for the most part i see good reviews on them , as well as their tech support. if you look around eventually you will find a complaint for virtually every brand out there. us included. usually followed by others who have the same brand who have no issues and are quite happy.

were i not happy with the unit i have , (and work for the company which built it {of course im biased} )breckwell would be a brand i would look at if shopping in the price range they are carried at which is generally the same market we sell in. for the cost , they are quite likely as good a brand unit as we are.

I have only had my Big E since the fall but not even 3 months into using it, the combustion blower is on its way out. I called Breckwell and they sent me to chase down my warranty with the internet site I bought it from. They sent me to the distributor. The part is supposed to ship Monday from the distributor.

The stove throws some heat and I'm happy with the heat. It's my 3rd stove but first Breckwell. After the experience of the bad convection blower, I can't wait to see what goes on it in the next 2 or 3 months. : (
 
i purchased a p22 breckwell stove on oct 1 2009.it has had to have 4 service calls-for the auger,convection fan,fireswitch and about the only thing left i didnt get was the circuitboard-i got the ash vac and cleaned it all and got the brushkit that goes up the chimney.now im getting another noise in the back of my stove like n the pipe up the roof asseembly or somewehre in the lower rear.my dealer will not give me another stove.i felt he has not been honest with me and dont know what my options are-am ready to sell the whole thing and get a wood stove-any ideas as to what my rights are>
