Buying Wood in CT

So this is my second year burning and I just ran out of wood (have 4-4.5 cords for next season). Searched Craigslist and have come to the conclusion that it's impossible to find seasoned wood. I really dont want to give up on burning this season and its really killing me to hear that furnace kick on! Just wondering if anyone out there know of any reputable places out there that have seasoned firewood near central ct.

Tony, welcome to the forums! We've ALL been where you are once. In fact I just commented on another post in this forum and the guy was in the same boat as you are. Look around for some wood that is seasoned,. Stay away from any fresh cut oak, try and find maple or ash as it will burn much better if it's only been cut and split 5 or 6 months to a year, oak needs two to three years to season....

If the wood you purchase looks to be too green yet, you may have to split it down small (3x3" to 4x4"), and find some scrap pallet wood (not chemical or paint laden), mix the two together and it should get you by. BUT, you will need to keep an eye on your flue as this will still put some moisture in your chimney. Check it once a month or so, and clean as needed......

Your climate still has at least 1 1/2 months of cold weather, you're gonna be dealing with it for a while yet.

And my final piece of advice is to do whatever you can to try and get three years ahead in your wood stores. That way, your oak, maple, hickory, ash and whatever you have will have plenty of time to season. Figure out what you used this past year and ad three cord to that, that's about what you are going to want to have on hand to get you through an entire year and a little extra....

The number of places selling kiln-dried firewood has really increased. They will have wood, for a price. I'm not sure what you have down your way, but if you really want to keep burning look around for some of that.

Lots of people also burn those pressed wood bricks, Eco bricks ect. Mix those in with other stuff like Scotty said and that may help.

Hey! Hope all is well......Here are a few idea's
1) Go to a local K-Mart, Target, Walmart..etc.....ask for the manager. Tell him you burn wood to heat your home and ask if you could take some pallets that are out back. Chances are they will gladly give them to you. I do when I need them.
2) Contact you local Highway Superintendent. He's the one in charge of tree trimming for your town. Explain your situation and ask if you can go to there dumping zone and get some wood. Chances are he will say yes.
3) Visit a local 84 Lumber or other lumber yard and do the same thing. They always have pallets and scrap wood laying around.
