Can I replace the metal with glass on this vigilant? Is this stove worth $300?

Stoves don't have glass. It's ceramic material.

Cutting cast iron is tough, and having a proper place for a gasket and clamps.oto seal and hold the window will be tough as well.

I can't advise on the price.

i believe on the early VC stoves, the glass option was for coal versions because coal wold not blacken the ceramic glass like wood smoke would.

Kk. One other question. The below stove. Is replacing the glass expensive? Is this a solid price for this stove

no idea, could be any number of things right or wrong with an old stove. i've seen very nice ones in the $100-$200 range. unrestored, these top out around $100-$400.
