I think when the person who had installed my harmon three years ago and came back in siliconed everything up, messed up my cleanout T cap. He siliconed that, and then, of course, I contacted them and said what the heck that needs to not be siliconed, because I need to be able to get to it to clean out the stove. He came back and tried to get the silicone off by scraping it and cutting it. I really think he just messed it up because now smoke is leaking out of there too. I did put silicone tape around it, but I do think i'm gonna need to just replace it. Are these caps all universal depending on the diameter or do I need to know what specific pipes these are. These pipes were installed over fourteen years.ago, when I had my first pellet stove put in. Attached a picture of what my clean out looks like..

I'd hate to say this, but that venting is looking pretty bad. I think you should be looking at changing those parts out. Check out the Excelpellet product. The seal is built in.

Looking bad how? The aluminum tape was only because I was trying to find where the leak was coming from. Some of the red silicone is from the installer... looks like he haphazardly.Just put it wherever but didn't really seal the joint. So I went over it with the red silicone. I appreciate your advice and will look for somebody in the spring because I would have to hire somebody to just replace the piping.I am not capable of doing any of that... any recommendations for someone in the rhode island area?

Clean out tee caps are well known to leak smoke on start-up
New, Old, taped or silicon, they tend to leak until plugged with ash at the leak point

To answer your question, yes, you need to know what brand and type it is (I think one brand has the regular consumer type and also a pro line - those are not compatible).

As stated above, T's and elbows, in my experience, leak until plugged up with ash. As a matter of course, I silicone tape any place there is a bend or seam, as well as the connection joints.
