It is going in an outbuilding, about 16x16, two stories, well insulated

I'd guess it is the original Intrepid. They now make an Intrepid II with a catalytic converter on it that shares a lot of parts with the original.

It is an older Intrepid and it is overpriced. $550 is way too much. $300 would be more in line.

I can't comment on the differences between the Intrepid and Intrepid II, but I can say my Intrepid II is doing a remarkable job of heating an uninsulated 30x40 pole barn. I gave $375 for the stove, chimney, cap, and fire tools. The guy was removing it from his house and got rid of everything wood burning related he had.

Its for a buddy of mine, he was looking at the Jotul# 8, but I have heard of lighting problems with them?? (not sure, just 2nd hand info)

I have the regency medium box myself, and love it (F2400, about 12yrs old)

I don't think the price is too high. That's not as commonly seen as the bigger VCs, especially in such good condition. To me, a stove isn't like a car that keeps getting cheap the longer ago it was made. If a good stove is in like-new condition, why shouldn't it sell for the same price as an equivalent later model used stove? Used Jotul 118s go for big bucks, as high as $650 that I've seen. A well made stove is a lifetime investment. If it was near Saratoga I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Perfect size for my fireplace.

But seriously, $550 is over priced for that stove. $550 will get you one of the smaller Englanders that will be more efficient and heat a larger space.
