Question:

Craig, we have a very old vigilant, its probably 18 yrs old, consequently there is no catalytic converter, and we do get a build up of creosote, is there a catalytic converter that I can get for this stove? it has an 8 inch stove pipe. Thanks Al

Answer:

Sorry, there is no cat for that stove which would work well. At one time Vermont Castings made a device called an "energy extended" which fit that model, but even this did not work too well.

Best bet is, when possible, to burn the stove with smaller loads of wood and more air. Some of the Anti-Creosote chemicals might also help.
