I posted a thread about a new Stihl chainsaw that I had purchased in feb. the issue I was having was with the oiler not functioning properly and some problems I was having with getting that issue resolved. Last week the oiler finally quit and I took it in to my dealer . Took a couple days to get the new oiler and installation . My bar and chain was also replaced free of charge. I am happy to say that the saw is running and oiling like it should and all are happy, happy , happy!

Was it not oiling at all, or intermittently?

Just got my 290 back from the dealer, was having the same problem. Was not oiling enough. They also replaced the pump. Hopefully won't face that problem again.

Great to hear. My 290 is six years old and has been used very hard, never skips a beat on cranking, oiling, etc.

Now to start putting that new oiler through its paces ;)

I put mine to the test and its performing very well. I rip split a bunch of maple the nite I got it back and didn't skip a beat

I am having the exact problem with my new stihl ms271 . Already have taken back to stihl dealer I brought it from 3 weeks ago. They charged me 65.00 and told me there was some fine saw dust that clogged the oiler. So I paid for it and tried using it again and it's still not throwing any oil. I called back and the service manager blamed the E.P.A. for putting new restrictions on the amount of oil that can be released from a chainsaw.i guess I'll have to wait until it Burn the bar and chain befor stihl hopefully does something about it.hopefully befor it ruins my 400.00 investment.

I think the stihl dealer that charged you $65 to scoop fine saw dust out from a 3 week old saw was off base. Something ain't right if a brand new saw gets clogged so easily - and I'd expect a warranty to cover such a repair anyway.

If you end up back there with a burned chain and bar, the least they could do after fixing the problem is replace everything no charge.

I know the EPA has it's place and all, but I worry about the day they start monitoring people's rear end emissions.

I sincerely doubt the EPA has any restriction on bar oil consumption because if it did, my 455 Rancher would be in severe violation. The darn thing oils even when not running.:p

I barely notice the bar oil from my ms250. The oil is going somewhere though, since I fill the reservoir with every tank of gas!

I'm a Stihl guy. But I will say that their dealers are very hard to deal with as far as equipment issues are concerned in my experience anyway. It took me a while to really get anyone's serious attention with my issues.

A hard to deal with dealer is the last thing I need. I guess a new Stihl is not an option. On the other hand my old Stihl 026 is still going strong after over 25 years so the equipment itself is OK.

My Husky dealer has been great. For that reason alone I'd go Husky again.

Sounds like you need to find a new dealer! He should have explained to you how the saw operates and how to do basic maintenance.
