Changing to Wood Stove

Hi guys,

I have a wood burning fireplace in my cabin right now and have got a wood stove to switch over too. The fireplace has a maybe 2 year old 8'' insulated selkirk chimney that's 6 feet high.

I was wondering if its possible to to just run the 6'' stove pipe inside the 8'' chimney and out the roof?? Or do i need to replace the 8'' with 6'' Insulated.

That's what I did when I put the Mansfield in. Many people on here will disagree with the idea, but I think its as good or better than just 6" insulated. I have 8"insulated that I used with an old Fisher stove , put single wall up through the middle and used a 1" thick rope gasket to hold the pipe in the center of the 8". What I have is a triple wall pipe with all the proper clearances.

Is the 8" chimney rated for woodstoves? You need a Class A chimney for a woodstove because it gets hotter than a fireplace. I think the UL number has an HT on the end if it is. If not, I would say the stovepipe is definitely a no-no. You might be able to try an insulated liner?

Welcome gratz. Agreed. I would try running a 6" connector to the ceiling support box then transition to 8" at that point. How tall will the entire flue system be? What stove is this for?

Alright thanks for the help everyone. I'm pretty sure the 8'' is Class A but i will double check it this weekend when i get back out there i know it was 2'' thick tho. I picked up a 6'' to 8'' adapter to see how that works, If not i'll just get new 6'' insulated. The flue is about 6 feet inside and another 6 feet out the roof.
The stove is a older Century unit. Around 2002 i believe got it for free and only going to be used on weekends.
