And found a small amout of brown soot in the clean out and noticed a fine coating of brown soot up the liner. If i saw this in the hvac industry with oil i would marvel how beautiful the system was burning. Ive gone thru 4 bags this year and just wondering if this is normal or what should be. This is my first year burning any sort of wood in my life.

I usually clean after the short multi firings of the shoulder season is done and in the middle of winter. The winter cleaning usually has very little of anything as the pipe is always warm.
