OK, its not quite a chimney cap but I don't know the exact terminology. My class A double walled metal chimney goes up and through a galvanized piece of sheet metal at the top of my chase. This galvanized sheet is beginning to rust at the corners. Does anybody know how I might coat or paint this to extend the life? Maybe some spray primer that works on galvanized sheet metal? Thanks!

Sand off the rust the best you can, wipe the thing down with some diluted vinegar, let it dry, prime & paint to taste with Rustoleum or equivalent. OR...fabricate a copper replacement. OR...get a custom stainless steel job built. OR...have a heavier guage steel one made & get it chrome plated. OR... %-P Rick

I did exactly what fossil described about a month ago. We will see how long it holds up, but, even if I have to paint it once a year, no big deal. Stainless sure would be nice! KD
