Did the first annual chimney cleaning on the EB boiler. Hired a
pro sweep to do the deed, mainly for his opinion on the condition
of the flue as he sees many every day.

He remarked that he had never seen
such fine soot in a chimney before. A 27' flue yielded maybe a 1/3 of
a paper grocery bag full. I would estimate >1/8" coating.
The sweep felt there was no flammable material nor has there been any
fires.

The soot also came out the single wall pipe joints which suggests
that there hasn't been any real creosote forming which would have sealed the
joints. Does this sound normal for a gaser boiler? The pipe joints don't seem to leak
during operation but will need to seal somehow during cleaning. Or is there a heat proof
tape for that application. Thanks MM

I used gobs of high temp RTV sealent on my single (and double) wall pipe joints. I really only needed the sealant after installing a draft inducer. I've never had enough soot (creosote) on the insides of my pipes to seal up....
