Chimney Liner Kit SS up to 13' for $695.00? Really?

Just orderd a Lopi Freedom and dealer quoted the chimney liner kit at $695.00. I balked at ordering his kit as I've been quoted $289.00 by the PE dealer and $398.00 by the Quad Dealer. Am I wrong or can I use the PE or Quad liner kit and save some $$$? Its just for a single story application with a brick chimney.

+1, otherwise it's just speculation. There could be a difference in gauge, alloys and construction. Also kit parts may be of different quality and design, for example the cap.

Assuming these are all 6" flues, then yes one should work on the other. A difference might be the stove connection adapter?

I am assuming your talking about a top exit versus a rear exit, I don't see how a base tee would run anymore then $100.00

All three are top venting stoves with 6" flue. I just cant figure out the $300 - $400 difference for materials alone.

I just got 25" of 6" Selkirk versaliner SS Flex w/kit for $339.00 from Menard's ( as big a home improvement store as Home Depot, Lowes at least here in the Midwest ).

I can sell liner that ranges from the lowest price you posted to over the highest. You simply do not give us enough information about what you are trying to buy.

In general you don't just go into a store an buy "liner", any more than you go into a car dealer to buy a "car". Prices are all over the place. You'll spend more for a better car and you'll spend more for a better liner.

If you ask me to give you my "cheapest" liner that is approved for use with your stove I might oblige. Or I might try asking you some questions to find out what you know and what you don't know. Maybe the "cheapest" liner will not be suitable for your house and chimney. At Menards or Lowes you can buy at the cheapest price but they assume that you know what you need and will make the right choice for your application.

If you need help figuring out what type of liner is best for your house and chimney and will pass all applicable codes for use with your new wood stove I would suggest that you pay a little extra for the best liner kit you can afford purchased from a local hearth shop who wants to help. If you are not interested in that kind of assistance or the hearth shops don't seem interested in helping you figure it out than do your best to find out what you can here and then buy your liner at the lowest price.

The $695 may be the right number. Don't know. Did you ask the three different stores to explain what is included in their kit? Did any of them offer to come over to your house and check your chimney? It's awfully hard to tell you if my particular liner kit is the right one for your chimney without seeing it first.

Sorry for the lack of info. I'm a novice at this as this is the first time we've purchased an insert or stove. The liner quotes were directly from the dealers of those stoves. There was no discussion of different types of liners or the respective quality of each. It was this is the cost of our liner. What Im looking for is the toyota of the liner world. I dont want junk or necessarily the "cheapest" and dont want to pay for features I dont need. But if the "cheapest" happens to get the job done for $400 less, that works for me. I want something that will get the job done and wont have to be replaced in 3 years. Here are some photos of our fireplace & chimney if that would help in making a recommendation.

Ask them about the manufacturers of the liner, personally I dislike duravent components because they are pretty light weight 26 ga, and their flashing this year only has a 3/8" lip on it.. I do like Z-flex components as well as my own MagnaFlex components... National chimney parts look good as well but I've never had them in my hands.. I would stay away from the flimsy stuff and stay with 24 gauge components.

Just went back and checked and sure as @#$#, he changed his name from magnaflex to TheHeatElement .
