if i am not mistaken the dura tech has a thermal blanket rather than just some insulation that i have heard settles out of each piece, in time leaving part of the pipe uninsulated. what is the metalbestos pipe like? my chimney guy likes dura tech. are the two comparable?

DO NOT buy metalbestos. It is as you said an industrial slag waste product packed in between the stovepipes and settles over time. Blanket type is the way to go. I use ICC Excel but am not familiar with Duratech.
