Having the top sections of my chimneys torn down and rebuilt (they were falling apart and had multiple repair jobs done incorrectly). Anyway, the new guys put this flue in...it looks already damaged with a crack at the top and a hole at the joining sections...thoughts on this? Major issue? Make them replace it?

thanks for any help!

James

That is new construction? If so I hope you did not pay them.

Water will lay in that crack and pop it open when freezes. I'd ask for replace correctly.

That was a reused liner. Has mortar residue from before. Tell them you want a NEW section.

Thanks all. Yep, new construction...I have one of their company reps coming today to inspect everything...temperature got pretty cold last night and it was all left uncovered. Not too happy at this point.

Yeah definatly not a new liner. What is running through this flue?

It was just wood burning fire place. They ran a gas line to it before I moved in and has been unused for 2 years.
Ok in that case have them replace the clay with new and be done with it.
