Question:
We just installed a gas fire place insert which draws air from inside our house (bungalow). When it is windy outside there is a very loud wind noise coming from the fireplace and an updraft strong enough to pull a kleenex into the upper grill on the fireplace. There is a four inch liner and cap on the chimney. Is there any way to stop the wind noise?
Answer:
There may not be...but then again - you might contact the maker and see if a thermostatic damper is allowed to be placed on the chimney. This is one problem with B-Vent units . they draw air from inside the home and the chimney is always open. This results in a larger heat loss from the room..and the wind problems you describe.
