We recently restored a Double Star stove that we intend to install in our home. Our house used to have a wood burning stove so all the pipes are in place for one. I've read every post on this site in regards to our stove with many not recommending it. I know it's from Taiwan and doesn't heat a whole home. We are not trying to heat our whole home through winter. We live in east texas and may only have 2 or 3 short cold spells a year. I mainly want it for esthetics and warm up our living room when it's really cold outside. We've ran some test fires through it (outside) and it's solid.

What I'm hoping to find out is any information or recommendations on clearances for installing. I've seen most people mention a panel or metal plate with that info on their stove but ours does not have that. We will be installing a heat resistance backer on our wall, currently thinking cement board with porcelain tile, and on the floor. Any info will be helpful!

The stove requires 36" clearance in all directions. This can be reduced to 12" with proper wall shielding. Tile on cement board is ok, provided that the cement board is mounted on 1", non-combustible spacers, and has a 1" gap at the bottom and top so that air can freely convect behind it. Note that if single-wall stove pipe is used to connect the stove to the chimney system, it has an 18" clearance requirement, double-walled stove pipe is 6".
