I have a Timberline Insert that I am planning to put into my masonary fireplace (brick hearth). I called my township office for their clearance or codes related to wood inserts. They said that I should follow the manufactures rec's. Problem I don't have the manual to the insert. Any suggestions?????

I'd suggest you try to locate a manual on-line, but take a closer look at your insert.
Does it have a rating plate on it? a LOT of manufacturers list the clearances right on the plate.
If you can't find the actual clearances somewhere, you're gonna hafta default to NFPA-211.
That says you gotta be 36" from combustibles...
