Computer battery back up for my stove?

Hi, I'm considering a battery back up for my stove, the type you would use on a desktop computer. Mind you I'm not planning to run the stove on it, just give me enough time to shut the stove down properly during a power outage. I have a Quadrafire Santa Fe. Any reason that for my limited use that this wouldn't work?

I have one...make sure it is "pure sine wave" your motors might not like it otherwise

Yes, It will work. One hurdle is getting the stove to know its on back up power and to shut itself down before it looses the juice from the back up. I'm going to use a relay in the stat wire to open the circuit. Make sure you have enough backup power in the UPS to handle the shutdown.

This would be a nice extra step to take

I have a APC as my battery backup and have had no issues when I have lost power during a power outages. I get about 25 mins plenty of time to get the generator up on line. It also protects from brown outs and power surges its a win win. Ak

Yes. I have a 1650 UPS with pure sine wave etc etc. I get about 45 minutes of run time on it with my old Whitfield which is more than enough to wait for the power to come back on for 15 minutes then shut it down.

Thanks guys, but the sine wave thing throws a new wrinkle into my plan. I have a regular modified sine wave generator for extended outages. If I bought a sine wave APC, and during extended runs I plugged it into my generator, would the power coming out be converted to sine wave? And thanks!

Maybe : Some back-up units are not "continous conversion" types, and only generate the pure sine-wave output when the input 110VAC drops-out, when they are running on the battery. When the 110VAC is present, they just pass the input waveform thru as-is.

generally, no.... they do not convert line power. if its plugged in, it thinks its on street power, thus good.
on battery, it will be invertor power though.

the one I have has an AVR (see sig) which will do some adjusting for over/undervoltage as well as cleans up some noise.
it's not pure sine, but it's better.

I get about 50 min of run time out of it on medium. it gives me an est 10 min warning beep. if I hear that, I turn it off and the smoke is gone before its dead.

still, I wouldn't recommend running a stove through it on a small generator that is not invertor.
