Hi all,
I’ve got a Drolet Deco 2 going in, in front of my chimney chase.
What I’d like is to open the chase up (originally intended for gas/electric insert I believe.
Space between the studs on that exterior wall (gable end, but 30 degrees from straight. Doesn’t appear load bearing based n the existing header floating off the studs…) would be 47”, depth on the chase interior can be up to 20” before hitting its studs.
In a perfect world, the back of the Deco 2 goes about 1/4” in front of the current wall outside the chase, which becomes about a 47x14x96” cavity with the chimney pipe supported by a ceiling box as it’ll be visible and the double wall stove pipe using two 45degree bends to meet it.
Clearance for unshielded on this model is: sides 15”, back 7”, corners 12”.
There’s nothing directly to the side and back in the application.
Big question is:
Where exactly does the side and back clearance come into play? id like to almost treat the clearance as a corner install for the inspector, (imaginary wall 45 degrees wall from each side going into the back of the chase interior, it would be against a corner then…)
Is the corner clearance always measured at 45 degrees to the stove?
In this case the corner clearance lands inside the chase and is fine…?
Note:
I don’t really want to call this an alcove, as it’s not having the stove ever be inside.
Position is somewhat pre-determined by the layout of the house being full of windows and 120 degree corners, doors, etc. though that’s not fully relevant to the location question.
